The Palestinian general administration of narcotics detectives announced on Sunday that they uncovered the largest ever drugs-smuggling operation through the Rafah ground crossing, between Egypt and the Gaza Strip.
The detectives seized a huge amount of heroin estimated to be 3 kilograms.
In a statement received by Ma’an, the narcotics detectives said “a large amount of drugs was seized while a woman was attempting to smuggle it through the Rafah crossing. After the lady was transferred to the rehabilitation and reform centre, she was discovered to be hiding another amount of drugs on her person.”
The narcotics detectives affirmed that the aborted smuggling operation was the biggest since the establishment of the general administration of narcotics detectives.
The statement also announced that other kinds of drugs, types of marijuana and cannabis, were seized in the Gaza City and Nuseirat areas.
The narcotics detectives called for Palestinian cooperation and for people “to stand firm against these operations, which aim to spread plagues in the Palestinian society”.
They added that investigation is ongoing in order to “reveal those who threaten Palestinian future and stability”.
