As I posted yesterday, there may be reason to worry about Sheikh Catmeathead’s successor, Fehmi Naji el-Imam.

While we hope for a more constructive contribution to Australian public life from Sheik Hilali’s successor, Fehmi Naji el-Imam, there is reason to worry about some public comments from the 79-year-old Lebanese-born cleric. Sheik Fehmi called on Hezbollah “freedom fighters” to prevail after they attacked Israel, murdering Israeli soldiers and firing thousands of missiles at Israeli civilians. He also called for Hezbollah’s militant arm to be removed from Australia’s proscribed list of terrorist organisations, a call rightly rejected by the federal Government. Sheik Fehmi supported alleged terrorist conspirator Abdul Nacer Benbrika’s Australian citizenship, a decision he regretted as Mr Benbrika’s extremist views became apparent.

Note how he is 79-years-old. His heart probably couldn’t cope with too much uncovered meat.

By the way, you can read the whole editorial for a laundry list of Sheikh Catmeathead’s indiscretions.

Update: It’s official: the new Mufti is also a meathead.

The refusal by Australia’s new Mufti to accept Osama bin Laden was responsible for the September 11 attacks has sparked a mass brawl online.

In his first day in the job, the cleric Sheik Fehmi Naji el-Imam stuck by his long-standing view questioning whether bin Laden was behind the 2001 attacks.

“What evidence?” he said when asked if he now accepted bin Laden’s role in the atrocity.

Two years ago, when asked the same question, he said: “How would I know? He’s unable to be found.”
