The Day in Israel: Tues Mar 10th, 2009

Click refresh to see new updates during the day.

The Dorktator, Syrian President Bashar Assad, denounced US claims that a Syrian site reportedly bombed by Israel two years ago was a nearly finished nuclear reactor, stating that the location had been built over, but not elaborating what the new construction was.

Meanwhile, there have been unconfirmed reports of a new shopping mall in the area, frequented by people with weird limbs and a greenish tinge.

Updates (Israel time; most recent at top)

8:22PM: Purim float of the day:

Well, Purim is a holiday of hope and change..of costumes.

8:10PM: Here are some Muslims demonstrating in Israel.

In support of Israel and the US.

8:05PM: On the Israellycool forum: If any of you have made aliyah (immigrated to Israel), please share your experiences here.

8:00PM: Yesterday, I posted footage of George Galloway calling palestinian terrorists “heroes of the palestinian resistance.”

Here is news indicating some more tangible support of the terrorists.

Firebrand British MP George Galloway on Tuesday donated thousands of dollars and dozens of vehicles to the Hamas-run government in the Gaza Strip after arriving in an aid convoy.

“We are giving you now 100 vehicles and all of their contents, and we make no apology for what I am about to say. We are giving them to the elected government of Palestine,” Galloway said at a press conference in Gaza City.

Galloway said he personally would be donating three cars and 25,000 pounds (35,000 dollars) to Hamas prime minister Ismail Haniya as he dared the West to try to prosecute him for aiding what it considers a terror group.

“I say now to the British and European governments, if you want to take me to court I promise you there is no jury in all of Britain who will convict me. They will convict you.”

7:45PM: I just got back from celebrating Purim with my in-laws, which involved eating copious amounts of barbequed meats. I know, it was tough, but somebody had to do it.

Here’s what I missed:

  • The palestinians fired 4 Qassams into Israel.
  • The IAF struck a palestinian rocket squad just after they fired some rockets, wounding 3.
  • An IDF soldier claimed two Arab men attempted to kidnap him, stabbing him twice in the process.
  • Palestinians claimed Israel granted amnesty to 78 wanted members of the al-Aqsa Martyrs’ Brigades, the Mahmoud Abbas-affiliated terror organization. Israeli officials did the no comment thing.

9:32AM: The palestinian Ma’aan News reports:

stewieKhan Younis man stabbed to death

Gaza – Ma’an – Palestinian medical sources announced death of 4-year-old Nidal Farawna who was stabbed to death in Khan Younis on Sunday night.

Farwana was pronounced dead at the Nasser Hospital in Khan Younis; he had been stabbed several times. His body was sent for an autopsy and a police investigation opened into the incident.

De facto government security services said they found clues which might lead to the killers, and noted that the death a criminal, rather than political or factional matter.

Criminal? Perhaps the 4-year-old “man” did not pay back money he borrowed to buy candy.

9:15AM: Follicly-challenged Hamashole deputy politburo chief Moussa Abu Marzouk has denied receiving  a videotape showing kidnapped soldier Gilad Shalit.

9:06AM: A couple of hours ago, palestinian terrorists fired 2 Qassams into the western Negev. Happy Purim!

6:47AM: Iran’s President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad has reportedly claimed hostile drones overflew Iran last month and disrupted the communications systems at the launch site of a missile carrying Iran’s first satellite to space.

6:37AM: Here’s an interview (in English) with Gilad Shalit’s father Noam, who moved into a protest tent adjacent to the residence of Israeli Prime Minister Ehud Olmert.

6:30AM: Jewish Hebron residents have accused palestinians of destroying prayer and psalm books in the Cave of the Patriarchs.
