The Day In Israel: Tues Apr 14th, 2009

Click refresh to see new updates during the day

It has been revealed that foreign intelligence services, including the Mossad and the CIA, provided information to Egypt that led to the uncovering of the Hizbullah terror cell in that country.

Updates (Israel time; most recent at top)

5:38PM: The 7th day of Pesach is fast approaching, which means I will be offline for the next 26 or so hours.

Wishing my Jewish readers a Chag Sameach.

1:43PM: The only thing surprising about this is that it took so long.

The Palestinian Agriculture Ministry in Gaza slammed on Tuesday Israeli allegations that Palestinians attempted to attack an Israeli warship using an explosive-laden fishing boat on Monday morning.

The ministry said in a statement that Israel’s account of Monday’s events was “trumped up story aimed at escalating aggression against fishermen” and “an excuse for piracy and destruction.”

The Agriculture Ministry said it has spoken with eyewitnesses who said the boat contained no explosives, and that it exploded only when an Israeli warship shelled it.

The Agriculture Ministry also alleged that the Israeli navy has escalated its harassment of fishing industry workers this season, and had recently seized dozens of fishermen in an attempt to recruit them as collaborators.

Ingenious, aren’t we? What better collaborator than a fisherman? And what better way to recruit a fisherman than by blowing up his boat?

Seriously, the only intelligence involved here is ours, which is time and again being insulted by the palestinians’ straight out lying.

1:33PM: Head of a Hizbullah cell in Egypt, Sami Shihab, has told Egyptian police that Hizbullah planned 3 simultaneous terror attacks against Israeli and Egyptian targets in three different tourist spots in Sinai.

9:25AM: The US and Europe are reportedly planning to drop a longstanding US demand that Iran rapidly shut down its nuclear facilities during the early phases of negotiations over its atomic program.

Yeah, this is going to end well.

8:55AM: The ISM, which has been obsessed with covering alleged incidences of the IDF firing on palestinian fishing boats, is strangely silent on yesterday’s IDF shooting of an explosives-laden boat.

8:15AM: Israel and the US are to hold a massive defense drill later this year, to jointly test three different ballistic missile defense systems.

The purpose of the exercise is “to create the necessary infrastructure that would enable interoperability between Israeli and American BMD systems in case the US government decided to deploy these systems here in the event of a conflict with Iran.”
