Shavua tov. Here’s the main news I missed over the Jewish Sabbath:
- Israeli Foreign Minister Avigdor Lieberman once again told it like it is, declaring that Syria cannot be considered a real partner for peace with Israel because it supports palestinian and Lebanese terror organizations, and the Iranian nuclear program.
- Meanwhile, the Arabic-language daily Al-Hayat reported that Lieberman and Head of Egyptian Intelligence Omar Suleiman discussed the two-state solution during their meeting earlier this week.
- In a similar vein, Jordan’s King Abdullah claimed Prime Minister Binyamin Netanyahu’s views on the establishment of a palestinian state are more forthcoming than his public statements.
- Today was not a good day for palestinian tunnel smugglers, with one dying after his tunnel collapsed, and another meeting an even more shocking end.
- Shakes on the plane: Israeli + panic attack = plane diversion
Updates (Israel time; most recent at top)
9:23PM: Iran’s supreme leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei has blamed Israel and the US for persistent violence in Iraq after two suicide attacks left scores of Iranian pilgrims dead.
“The American and Israeli intelligence apparatuses are the number-one accused… for the spread of the poisonous seeds of terrorism in Iraq,” Khamenei said in a message of condolence to the victims’ families broadcast on state television.
“Those evil brains and sinful hands that established this blind, unbridled terrorism in Iraq should know that this fire will end up burning them.”
Spreading poisonous seeds? Evil brains? Sinful hands? This man’s a freakin’ poet! A demented, evil poet, but a poet nonetheless.
Oh, and by the way Mr Ayatollah Ali Khamenei-dude..
OOGA BOOGA!
