A Man who allegedly posted anti-semitic videos on the website YouTube has been charged with attempting to incite racial animosity and racial harassment.
Police said the 39-year-old Perth man is only the second person to be charged under racial vilification laws introduced by Western Australia’s previous Labor Government four years ago.
A police spokesman said the man had been bailed ahead of a court appearance on the charge, which carries a maximum penalty of 14 years’ jail.
He is understood to have been arrested by officers from WA’s intelligence investigation unit yesterday, after posting video of himself making anti-Semitic comments in front of Perth’s Bell Tower and a South Perth supermarket.
Western Australia’s racial vilification laws took effect in May 2005 after white supremacists had carried out a number of attacks in Perth.

The charging of the Perth man in connection with the anti-semitic video has been welcomed by Perth’s Jewish community, estimated to number about 9000.
Keith Shilkin, president of the WA Jewish Community Council, said the video had “swept through the community, causing great concern”.
“Children at the Carmel Jewish day school have had counselling sessions but we have had close liaisons with the police, who became quickly aware of the situation,” Mr Shilkin told the israelforum.com website.
“The man has been a serial pest but the community was not overtly aware of him.”
The israelforum website, known as J-Wire, said the man, who was “very articulate”, had taken video of a demonstration by Friends of Palestine outside an IGA supermarket in South Perth which sold Israeli jaffa oranges.
“(The man) told his viewers that he was hoping to find some Jews at the scene and he did. He videoed himself harassing two young Jewish men and creating an argumentative situation,” J-Wire said.
The West Australian website said the video carried the remarks: “I head up to Parliament House to ask how it is Jewish supremacism has continued unabated for 250 years to the point where to speak of it warrants abuse, threats, job loss and even jail for those that dare question the new religion of holocaustianity.”
J-Wire said the leader of Friends of Palestine had distanced the group from the video and its maker.
“Shilkin told J-Wire that whereas the Friends of Palestine had been very outspoken on their views of Israel and its politics, they had not entered into any anti-Jewish propaganda and had been of no trouble to the local community,” it said.
I ask that my readers from the Perth Jewish community (you know who you are) please raise the important point to the authorities that O’Connell admitted to battery on the video I posted last week (now taken offline). They should not rely solely on racial vilification.
I would also suggest the young man who was hit by O’Connell come forward and report this battery if he hasn’t already.

Pope Benedict XVI on Wednesday branded the West Bank separation fence as a symbol of “stalemate” between Israel and the Palestinians, urging both sides to break a “spiral of violence”.
“Towering over us, as we gather here this afternoon, is a stark reminder of the stalemate that relations between Israelis and Palestinians seem to have reached – the wall,” he said standing by the fence at a refugee camp in Bethlehem, the birthplace of Jesus.
“How we earnestly pray for an end to the hostilities that have caused this wall to be built.”
The fence was built to help protect innocent Israelis against terrorists. It is not a reminder “of the stalemate that relations between Israelis and palestinians seem to have reached,” but rather a reminder of the brutal tactics employed by the palestinians to achieve their goal of eradicating the Jewish state of Israel.

An Australian who has denied the Holocaust occurred was sentenced Wednesday to three months in prison for defying an order to stop publishing anti-Semitic material on his Web site.
Fredrick Toben remained free after the sentencing, however, because the judge gave him two weeks to lodge an appeal.
Justice Bruce Lander of the Federal Court found Toben, 65, guilty of 24 counts of contempt of a 2002 court ruling that barred him from publishing anti-Semitic material on the Web site of his organization, the Adelaide Institute.
The material found to be in breach of the order included suggestions the Holocaust did not happen, that questioned whether there were gas chambers at the Auschwitz death camp, and that challenged the intelligence of Jews who questioned Holocaust deniers’ beliefs.

WA man accused of anti-Jew YouTube posts
A 39-year-old Perth man has been charged under Western Australia’s racial vilification laws in relation to a series of videos posted on the internet website YouTube.
It is alleged Maylands resident Brendon O’Connell shot video while making anti-Semitic comments in front of Perth’s Bell Tower and a South Perth supermarket.
O’Connell has been charged with conduct intended to incite racial animosity or racist harassment.
It is believed he is only the second person to be charged under the laws, which were introduced by the previous state government.
The maximum penalty for the offence is 14 years’ jail.

GOOD NEWS! Brendan O’Connell has been charged by the Morley Police.. he was arrested in Maylands… they even showed him on the news inciting his hateful remarks towards the Jewish Community.. he could get up to 14 years in the slammer, with the new laws.
YAAAAAAAAAAAAY Justice shall prevail. Hope he can get a lawyer, willing to plead “not guilty!” That’s right, all the good lawyers are Jewish! 🙂

I am not sure if the exposure given to O’Connell’s conduct on the blogs of Andrew Bolt and Tim Blair – which linked to my post on the subject – was responsible for bringing him to the attention of the relevant authorities, but it certainly wouldn’t have hurt. So well done to those of you who alerted Andrew and Tim to my post.

I am the convener of Friends of Palestine WA, the organisation responsible for the protest outside South Perth IGA which was referred to in the offending video by Brendon O’Connell you posted on your blog site.
Let me take this opportunity to tell you plainly and simply: Friends of Palestine WA is totally and utterly opposed to any and all forms of racism. We take a very dim view indeed of anyone voicing anti-Semitic views who purports to be either speaking or writing on our behalf. Any member of our executive committee found to be doing so will be summarily expelled from our ranks. Any individual found to be doing so will be barred from participating in our activities. That is why the individual in question, Brendon O’Connell, was immediately removed from our mailing list after we had the opportunity to view his video and hear the despicable opinions expressed therein.
Given members of Friends of Palestine WA are shown and identified in the video in question, we feel it is incumbent on you to point out to your readers that we as an organisation cannot be held responsible for the racist views expressed by a rogue individual who unfortunately happened to attend one of our protests.

I have NEVER had ANYTHING to do with “Friends Of Palestine”. EVER.
Alex was furious with me. And rightly so. But in the end I do not put up with lying snakes who try to say they have a right to throw out people from a land they have inhabited for 1300 years continuously. Did the little snake I slapped (after he tried to knock my camera out of my hand) look like a “semite”? He looks like a mix of Polish/Romanian stock to me with about as much “genetic ties” to Palestine as an eskimo. These people make me sick.
I spoke with Alex Whisson for 5 minutes and he pointed out that the fruit have been mislabeled. I made it perfectly clear I had ZERO to do with The Friends Of Palestine but does that stop the “lying jew”? Of course not. The jew has made a religion out of lying and sin – it’s called Rabbinic Pharisaic Judaism and they send their little satans spawn to Yeshiva Acadamies and Day Schools where they can learn to lie and cheat and steal from the Gentiles all they like.
