Help Decide the Future of “The Day in Israel”

Since I began doing them a year ago, I have received quite a bit of feedback regarding my daily “Day in Israel” posts. It seems many of you would prefer me to have separate news update posts, mainly to ease the reading of such updates as well as the linking to them.

For me, it is not a clear cut decision. After all, one of the main reasons I continued with this format after Operation Cast Lead was it enabled me to post updates during the day, without worrying whether I had something to add to each and every update – whether it be a snappy one liner, or deeper analysis. After all, I am loathe to create many posts which are nothing more than copy and paste jobs from other sources. Consequently, what happened after I adopted this format was an increase in Israel-related news content on the blog.

On the other hand, I understand the arguments against it and being pro-democracy, have decided to put it to a vote.

Should I continue with my daily 'Day in Israel' Posts?

  1. Don't take this the wrong way, but there are many blogs about Israel out there. Yes, I love your blog because its you writing it, but the reason I initially began to follow it was because of the Day in Israel setup. It has become part of my routine, bookmarking the page in the morning and pressing refresh sporadically throughout the day. I say keep it.

    1. Thanks for the comments. It is good to know there are at least some who really like the setup, although I would like to think that although there are indeed many blogs about Israel out there, Israellycool is not like all the others and has its own unique style.

      1. Well of course. What I meant was that the style is what initially hooked me. It was the fastest way to get the most important updates that I cared about. Now, the setup is convenient for me, but I keep coming back for the unique humor and perspective you offer.

  2. I read you first every morning (after my email) because I want to be updated about Israel and I like your take on things. I actually have you on my blog because I want more people to read you. Of course, more people have to read me for that to happen, but whatever. Keep up the good work!!!

  3. It is not a democracy, it is your blog, write the way you want to write it, don't worry about trying to please everybody.

Actually, you are my main news source at the moment, due to my aversion to reading anything local in English and the difficulty in navigating through Arutz Sheva in Hebrew,

So, please keep the format, but more news (cut and paste) of the generic type (the sort that avoids the extremism of the reporters), and lots of comments, which are particularly excellent lately.

Anyway, one man's opinion. (One thing nice here is the relative lack of political correctness in the language.)

    Keep up the excellent work!

  5. Hi Dave,

Personally I like the day in Israel format. There are loads of people who write topic-related posts. For your blog I get a nice summary in one article, rather than having to wade through multiple stories.

Whatever you do, keep being original. 🙂

    1. Yosef, I use Google Reader as well. My solution, which works very well for me, is to star the post and then visit my 'starred' folder every time I check my regular feed inbox.

  6. It could go either way. I hate having to wait until evening here (midnight there) to read it all. I dont like frantically refreshing every hour to see if there's an update.

On the other hand I do like the concept and it does let you do short blips and is more neat than having 50 posts a day like this other blog I read on and off.
