  1. Yea, I feel the love and warmth every time I leave a comment here. I prefer to think of Israelis as hard-nosed and deeply commited to the ideal of Israel as the eternal home for the Jewish people.

      1. Who but a true friend would tell you to trim your nose hair or point out how ridiculous you look in that plaid jacket?

          1. Well, like when I point out to Shy Guy the idea of forcibly removing all the Palestinian people living in the West Bank may not be well-received among the peoples of the world. Or when I suggest to you that it might be a good idea for secular Israelis to be legally married in Israel without having to jump through a lot of hoops erected by the Orthodox Jews. Nose hair and plaid jackets in my mind.

            1. OK, I'll tell you my bottom line, which is the survival of the Jewish people. When that is at stake, I tend to worry less about other issues. As far as my right to do so, see the watered-down response we had the last time it was threatened.

The following things will lead to the destruction of the Jewish people, in order of danger:

              1. Missionizing. (This has to be fought piece-by-piece.)
              2. Civil marriage, or more properly civil divorce, which will cause the Jewish people to be split into two groups than cannot intermarry. Ditto acceptence of Conservative/Reform conversions for marriage. The Left here loves this, because they would like nothing better than for Israel to stop being a Jewish state, and SAY SO.
              3. Loss of a major war by Israel.
              4. A Palestinian state that takes in the ""refugees".
              5. Loss of U.S. support by Israel. Please note this is a smallest issue.

              1. We are in strong agreement on your first danger item. Where do these various Christian groups get off sending missionaries to Israel to try to convert Jews? This is extremely offensive, even to an atheist like me. What would you do if a Jehovah's Witness knocked on your door with a copy of The Watchtower? This would be a good time to have Shy Guy over as a house guest.

                1. I do the same as I do with you. Confuse the heck out of them.

It's offensive, as is the New Israel Fund being funded by the EU, or the Conservative and Reform coming to Israel to make sure Charedi children can't go to Shul out of pure revenge, and McDonalds getting the Commerce department to strong-arm the Rabbinate into relaxing kosher supervision rules.

Actually, the missionaries are the least offensive, because they aren't using the government. They're just slighly more dangeorus. The most offensive is the Conservative/Reform, because they're simply using hate.

          2. “…the idea of forcibly removing all the [Arab settlers occupying Judea and Samaria] may not be well-received among the peoples of the world.”

Far better to concede our Jewish State to oblivion with “pragmatic” land-for-peace (land-for-nothing, actually, as even Egypt now shows) deals, then?

Look, your heart may be in the right place, but the experience a lot of Israeli Jews have of listening to “rational” and “pragmatic” advice hasn’t been that good. It’s time to try something new.

As for how the expulsion of the Arab settlers would be received among the peoples of the world, I’ll just say this: It is my understanding that a leadership in Israel Jewish enough to carry out the booting of the Arab colonists from Palestine will also be Jewish enough not to give a rat’s behind about either the opinion or the actions of the world.

  2. Nice quote, great singer.

However, it would be a lot better if we (Jews, and particularly their state) were to stop broadcasting to the world this deep desire to be loved. It’s a weakness our enemies are all too adept at exploiting.

Thanks to Julio Iglesias, Glenn Beck and anyone else who gives us aid and comfort with no strings attached, but let it be clear that even being the world’s pariah wouldn’t be the worst thing. The worst would be, fearing so much being the world’s pariah as to commit act after act of stupidity in the futile attempt to rectify the situation.

Three options are far better than begging to be loved:

    1) Growing a thicker skin. (Ignoring the bullies’ taunts; also stated as, “Damn the torpedoes! Full speed ahead!”)

    2) Taking advantage of the hatred toward us by acting like we have nothing to lose. (“If you’re doing the time, you might as well commit the crime.” Or another version: “That which our enemies accuse us of doing, that we must really do.”)

    3) For the Jewish State, using force to make our enemies cease and desist from their hatred of us. (PR victory through coercion of the hostile media outlets, the ideological counterpart to peace through superior firepower.)

          1. “Physical.”

We make some, and we can buy others in plain business deals.

“This is why we need the U.S.”

For buying weapons from them in plain dealing, alright. But not in the current state of affairs, where we buy weapons from the U.S. in preferential loan deals, only to pay a steep price later in the form of restrictions on buying from other sources, not to mention the general price of the U.S. government telling us where to build on our own land.

No alliances no more! Not even with the U.S.! The Torah forbids the Jewish nation to ally itself with any other nation, and now we can see HaShem’s great wisdom in that prohibition.

            1. Here's the problem. Classically, the Arabs can buy from whomever they want, but Israel can only buy from the U.S. I do not know if this has changed, but the Arabs may carry enough clout to make it so.

As you know, Israel's problem is that it does not have enough morality. there the formula is:

              M = MBY/J, and

              M is Morality
MBY is millions of barrels produced per year, and
J is the number of Jews in the country

          2. “Classically, the Arabs can buy from whomever they want, but Israel can only buy from the U.S. I do not know if this has changed,…”

It has changed. India, Russia, China and recently even France are willing to do deals with us, in addition to the deals they make with the Arabs.

“I thought that one was for the Canaanites only.”

Maimonides says it applies regarding all nations.

            1. If this is true – but you have to understand that weapons are not interchangable.

Regarding the second, I will check.

            1. In 48 we had the USSR, in 67 France? But the world has changed much since then, and we have been boxed into a corner for a long time.

              1. Yea thats true, but do you really think well end up completely alone one day? Theres always someone out there: India, China, Russia. As long as we have something desired by others, they will come bearing gifts and roses.
