Life Goes On As The Bombs Fall

You’re not a proper surfer if you let a little incoming fire get in the way of a good break. Take that beach!

From Breitbart’s Big Peace: Surfing in Israel–Or, How I Learned to Stop Worrying and Love Qassams.

When we got to the port and headed into the Scubar cafe, we found that the back wall had just been blown out by a Qassam missile from Gaza. The wait staff was cleaning up and simply said they would be closed for the night, but come back tomorrow.

A bit taken aback, I asked one of my companions what that meant–should we head home? He replied that it meant that we eat next door at the Blue Bar, and that I would not be able to have a Guinness with dinner. At dinner I asked how they could be so nonchalant about the missile. I was told that this is the life, and you must learn to live it and love it now. The missile was an hour ago, but good company and dinner were now. Not to enjoy it was to let the terrorists win. The shakshuka was good.

    1. “We have waves???”

On the Mediterranean coast they’re usually called particles. 😉

/if you wanna quant ’em, quant ’em already…

  1. This is a possible explanation why Anthony Bourdain has never taken his show (“No Reservations” on the Travel Channel) to Israel. He has gone all over the world with his show, sometimes well off the beaten track, so I don’t know why he hasn’t been to Israel. I’m fairly certain it has nothing to do with politics. He tends to seek out cuisine that Americans would find exotic, so maybe this is the real reason.

    1. In fact there is some exotic stuff in Israel. Last time I was there, I went into a Yemenite restaurant where the menu included cow’s udder and bull testicles, both kosher of course. I played it safe and ordered the beef and lamb shishkebob, which was wonderful, and served with French fries.

    2. I suggested No Reservations visit Israel too. He has been to Beirut twice, so far no Israel. I mentioned Goo Cha restaurant in Tel Aviv, open kitchen, cute waitresses, delicious sea food some from Holland. At the end of the meal while my wife was in the powder room, I went to one of the chefs and thanked him for catering to my wife’s food allergies. Next thing I know, the waitress delivers a delicious creme brulee for me – on the house!
