I was struck by this photo of President Obama being shown a tapestry in Ethiopia’s National Palace, by Ethiopian Prime Minister Desalegn. If you look at the area at the bottom of the tapestry, between the arms of the two men, you can clearly see two Jewish stars, the Magen David (Hint: Click on the photo to see full size).
Intertwined in the history of Ethiopia, is the story of King Solomon and the Queen of Sheba. Ethiopians believe that the Imperial House of Ethiopia (which no longer rules the country) is descended from Menelik I, the son of Solomon and Sheba. I’m guessing, based on what we can see in the tapestry, that it depicts Solomon receiving the Queen of Sheba in his palace in Jerusalem, hence the Jewish stars.
