This is a receipt from Albert the technician, to Oleg and Yulia of Bat Yam, Israel. Albert repaired a washing machine for the couple, who are both currently serving in the Israel Defense Forces (IDF). The receipt says, “Technician service-200 NIS. For soldiers-0 NIS. Amount owed-0 NIS.”
In the remarks section, Albert writes, “Security is on you, the repair service is on us.”

Anyone born before the 1980’s and the fall of the Iron Curtain, will not fail to note the irony of Israeli soldiers named Oleg and Yulia. Who could have dreamed the USSR would fall, or imagine that a mass Aliya to Israel would take place in the early 1990’s? We fought to get the Jews out of Russia, and now they are fighting to keep us safe in our land.
