John Kerry Disgraces Himself At Saban Forum

Soon-not-to-be US Secretary of State John Kerry has once again shown why it is a great thing he is soon-not-to-be.

US Secretary of State John Kerry on Sunday accused right-wing Israelis of deliberately thwarting efforts to broker a peace deal with the Palestinians.

In unusually stark terms, Washington’s top diplomat warned that Israeli settlement building was undermining any hope of an agreement to allow two states to live side-by-side.

At the Saban Forum, an annual gathering of senior Israeli and US policymakers, Kerry said some members of Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s government had made “profoundly disturbing” statements.

“And more than 50 percent of the ministers in the current government have publicly stated they are opposed to a Palestinian state and that there will be no Palestinian state,” he said.

Earlier in the day, Netanyahu had addressed the forum via video link, arguing that Israeli settlement building was not an obstacle to peace.

Israel was ready for talks with no preconditions, he said, urging Arab governments to recognize the state of Israel.

However, Kerry dismissed the idea that more Arab states would strike peace deals with Israel without any moves towards an agreement with the Palestinians.

“There will be no advance and separate peace with the Arab world without the Palestinian process and Palestinian peace,” he said. “Everybody needs to understand that. That is a hard reality.”

In the US government’s view, Israel’s accelerated building on Palestinian-owned land is not only an obstacle to peace but deliberately so, Kerry added.

“I’m not here to tell you that the settlements are the reason for the conflict, no, they’re not,” Kerry said.

“But I also can not accept the notion that they don’t affect the peace process, that they aren’t a barrier to the capacity to have peace,” he argued.

“And I’ll tell you why I know that: because the left in Israel is telling everybody they are a barrier to peace and the right that supports it openly supports it because they don’t want peace.”

US President Barack Obama’s administration, which comes to an end next month with no prospect of a revived peace process, has been frustrated by the attitude of Netanyahu’s government.

You can see Lurch in action here. Note how he breezes past the palestinian’s responsibilities “some of which they have not fulfulled.” He mentions incitement but no word on the terrorism to which we have been subjected. He explains his focus on Israel because it is a “US-Israeli forum,” and thus wants to talk about what the US and Israel can do. I would have thought talking about ways to end the incitement and terrorism are relevant points for discussion.

He is also wrong. To paint all those who support a Jewish presence in Judea and Samaria as not wanting peace and aiming to Greater Israel is a libel, and indicates a fundamental (and worrying) misunderstanding of the situation here.

In the meantime, the palestinians – whether the PA or Hamas – do not want peace and want all of the land here as part of a palestinian state. This is borne out time and again by their own statements and actions. Yet John Kerry does not see it fit to talk about that – or even believe this to be the case.

  1. More proof of Obama’s support of Islamic terror, and of his administration’s palpable hostility toward Israel.
    Good riddance, Giant Douche.

      1. It is Kerry (Clinton has more brains), but I don’t doubt that, unlike in Trump’s camp, he got clearance to say what he said.

I agree. Except for her words blasting Bibi over letting Jews live where Arabs don’t want them, you never heard her talking like that; you had to read her emails to find out that she thought pretty much what Kerry does, tried to undermine Israel’s elections, and wanted to force Israel into further suicidal concessions.

    1. got that one right out of your ass
      kerry’s words are kerry’s words
      need more proof?
      look at state under clinton
      you trumpbot puting troll

        1. he is not going to be the head of the dnc
the tape made in 2010 raising campaign funds which reveals ellison as a radical muslim, will derail his attempt
and obama hasnt ever spoken like this
          this is all state
state has felt this way since eisenhower
sometimes there is a president and/or sec that keeps them in check
sometimes like with bush 1 and obama…they dont
oh, and mattis feels exactly the same way
          but you got conned

          1. I hope you’re right, Walt. I do not want Keith Ellison as the chairman of the DNC. Even though I don’t trust a highly-edited audio tape from a guy like Steve Emerson, I believe Haim Saban is right when he identifies Ellison as anti-Israel and anti-Semitic.

            1. ahad_ha_amoratsim

Emerson has released the full, unedited tape. Along with a transcript. There is nothing in the full tape that changes what was in the edited tape.

              1. I’ll look into this further. Steve Emerson has a reputation of putting out false information to fulfill his anti-Muslim political agenda. As I stated earlier, Keith Ellison is a poor choice for DNC Chairman for his hostile attitudes towards Israel and Jews in general.

Here’s a little more information, from Commentary Magazine.

I’m not aware that Emerson has ever put out false information. The SPLC and various Muslim advocacy groups have accused him of doing so, but oddly enough no one has ever pointed to a specific falsehood. Similar charges are leveled from time to time against Palestinian Media Watch, Dershowitz, and Honest Reporting but again, no one seems able to produce even a single one of the supposed many lies that these sources are accused of spreading.

“Ellison’s 2010 speech also deserves greater scrutiny. IPT’s Steve Emerson has now published the complete transcript of Ellison’s remarks. Taken as a whole, they are far more damning than the one excerpt that forced the ADL to condemn him.” https://www.commentarymagazine.com/anti-semitism/what-keith-ellison-really-said-israel-anti-semitism/
There is a link to the full video and the full transcript. It is instructive that Ellison himself never specified the supposed lie.
Just saying that a witness lied — without saying what the lie was and presenting at least some evidence that the supposed lie is indeed a lie — is not impeachment; it is merely character assassination.

                  1. Emerson falsely claimed that Birmingham, England was a Muslim-held “no-go” zone. This statement is so utterly false and unsupported that Fox News decided to no longer have Steve Emerson appear on their news programs. Reaction from then U.K. Prime Minister David Cameron was something to the effect that upon hearing Emerson’s comments he spit out his morning coffee (or perhaps it was his morning breakfast, memory fades sometimes).

Thanks, I do seem to recall something about that now, not long after several police departments (I don’t recall if Birmingham was among them) reported that there were no-go zones in their cities.

      1. ahad_ha_amoratsim

That would be the same Hillary Clinton who as Sec. of State lectured Israel’s PM for 45 minutes or more about some 6th level bureaucratic building permit for housing for Jews on Jewish owned land in a part of Jerusalem that most people agree would remain in Israel’s hands in any peace agreement?

And who applauded Max Blumenthal for saying Israel was an apartheid state?

And tried to subvert Israel’s elections?

And who floated a plan to channel money thru anti-Israel foreign funded NGO’s in Israel to pay Arab women to riot, in order to pressure the IDF?

Yeah, her words are fine. It’s her actions I worry about.

  2. kerry is very lucky that he married rich
almost got conned by that guy when he ran for president
100 percent voting record on israel
when he ran for prez, he said all the right things too
ya…all the problems in the middle east are because of israel
bush didnt destabilize the region with an stupid war and an even worse occupation
obama didnt choose not to support the green revolution in iran
obama didnt stupidly support the worthless arab spring
mccain and company didnt push to arm syrian rebels who are really terrorists
and isis didnt grow out of the bathist party…which goes back to stupid thing number one
    reality….ww1 never ended
every war, cold war, skirmish, civil war, etc, goes right back to that war and decisions made post that war
and with or without israel the mideast would still be a mess, because the americans, french and brits designed it to be that way
kerry is lashing out because this is his last go-round and he has proven to be an epic fail

    1. ahad_ha_amoratsim

And remind me who gave Iran a clear path to a nuclear bomb and ICBMs, lifted the sanctions, and paid them huge amounts of money to fund terror and subversion throughout the Middle East.

  3. No fiat Pali state will be established, and Dems–and every other leftist–can fantasize all they like about one existing. But certainly, nothing is bound to happen without addressing the obvious elephant in the room and the crux of this conflict: Palis’ vocal intent of Jewish genocide and destroying Israel.

  4. A big part of the problem for the Americans trying to facilitate a negotiated settlement between the Israelis and Palestinians, something both sides said they welcomed, was to know exactly what they were willing to do for peace. The Palestinians agree to discussions with the intent to enter into a bi-lateral, negotiated settlement with the Israelis while their real strategy was to run off to the U.N. or the I.C.C. to embarrass Israel and seek concessions through international pressure. The Israelis under Likud never have had a consistent, coherent West Bank settlement policy. Look at the mess in Amona right now. Can any Israeli honestly say they know where Netanyahu stands on Amona? Is he for the settlements standing or is he for their demolition as required by the Israeli Supreme Court decision?

      1. If Netanyahu is left of center in Israeli politics, who do you see as taking the political center position? Naftali Bennett? Moshe Feiglin? Aussie Dave? Brian of London? You?!!?

    1. ahad_ha_amoratsim

The Supreme Court decision is based on very little evidence, and was issued in a suit brought by a group that under US law would have no standing as a party.

      1. Israel is either a country of laws or it’s not. What is the principle Bibi Netanhayu is holding so dear on Amona? I think the principle is that he wants to hold onto political power by avoiding splitting his governing coalition by taking no firm position at all.

        1. ahad_ha_amoratsim

How about the principal that it is lawful to build on state land with a permit, and that anyone claiming it is privately owned land ought to prove it? And ought to have a stake in the outcome (which the US and the UK call standing)?

          1. It is my understanding that the Israeli Supreme Court held that Amona was built on Palestinian-owned land, and therefore under Israeli law, was an illegal settler outpost. On this issue, I’m not sure there is a higher legal authority than that.

            1. Amona is another fake issue that the Left dredges up. More important issues are the Palestinian incitement and commitment to terror which has never abated.

              1. Bibi Netanyahu doesn’t think Amona is a fake issue. It could bring down his government. MK Kahlon (Kalanu) doesn’t think it’s fake. Nor Naftali Bennet. Nor the people of Amona. Where did you get such an unfounded notion, Meredith?

  5. Well, the man came right out and explained why he’s clueless about the reality in the Middle East.
“the left in Israel is telling everybody they are a barrier to peace and the right that supports it openly supports it because they don’t want peace”
He’s being fed all his information straight from Israel’s sadly delusional so-called-peace camp with no filters, no analysis, and no counter arguments. And he’s not interested in changing any of that no matter how much his ideas blow up in our faces. Good ridance indeed.

  6. The guy has zero accomplishments to show for his time in office. If he was in a real job he would have been fired a long time ago.

    1. Taxachusetts, sadly. Maybe something in the Heinz Ketchup, perhaps. I won’t surprise you by saying I mostly agree with John Kerry on dealing with the Netanyahu government and the Palestinians under Abbas.

  7. Kerry is a perfect example of a phony politician who when he was a Senator pretended to be a friend of Israel but once he left elected office showed his true colors. One should not be surprised, anyone who would accuse his fellow American soldiers of being 20th century versions of the Mongol Hordes is a shameless careerist. He cannot vacate Foggy Bottom soon enough for me.

  8. Norman_In_New_York

46 days and Kerry is outta here. As I have previously pointed out, Kerry’s daughter is married to an Iranian doctor with ties to the Tehran government. Whether blackmail or undue influence is at work here, I’ll leave to you to decide.
