Hanan Ashrawi Seethes After Greek Orthodox Patriarch of Jerusalem Dares Praise Israel

It is no secret there is freedom of religion in Israel, unlike anywhere else in the Middle East.

It is pretty hard to deny it – just ask Patriarch Theophilos of the Greek Orthodox Church, who has praised Israel for it.

Theophilos, the Greek Orthodox Patriarch of Jerusalem and guardian of the Orthodox Christian population in Israel, the Palestinian territory and Jordan has entered the Palestinian-Israeli conflict, with praise he made of Israel during a meeting with that country’s president.

Speaking on behalf of Christian leaders in Israel during a meeting with Israeli President Reuven Rivlin, Theophilos said, “We take the opportunity of this holiday gathering to express our gratitude for the firmness with which you defend the freedoms that lie at the heart of this democracy, especially the freedom of worship.”

Here is footage from the meeting in queston:

Of course, if you are a palestinian leader, you can lie about anything – it’s second nature. And PLO Executive Committee member Hanan Ashrawi has made a career out of it.

PLO Executive Committee member Hanan Ashrawi condemned Theophilos for praising Israel’s freedom of worship, saying the cleric deliberately ignored “Israeli violations” on the issue.

“We are seriously concerned by the statement of the Greek Orthodox Patriarch of Jerusalem, Theophilos III, who praised Israel for being a ‘democracy’ that ‘respects freedom of worship,’” Ashwari said in an emailed statement to the media.

She went on to cite numerous examples of what she called “Israeli violations” of religious freedoms against Christians in Israel.

“Theophilos III is very well informed of the Israeli violations of the freedom to worship of his own community during Easter and is also aware of the occupation of the Saint John Convent nearby the Church of the Holy Sepulcher, today turned into another illegal Israeli settlement,” she said, a likely reference to a permit approved by the capital’s city hall for a single Jewish structure in the Silwan neighborhood of East Jerusalem.

Ashrawi accused the patriarch’s message on religious freedom of contradicting the facts on the ground for Palestinian Christians.

This comes after Ashrawi told CNN Israel is “the most racist, hard-line extremist violent government in history.”

So her relationship with the truth is, shall we say, severely troubled.

This is the same Hanan Ashrawi whose Miftah NGO has been publishing neo Nazi material. So when it comes to being racist, she has experience.

Meanwhile, as I recently posted, Patriarch Theophilos sacked palestinian Archibishop Attalla Hanna, likely for the latter’s support of terrorism. So he seems to be one of the good guys.
