University of Lethbridge Files Human Rights Complaint Against Antisemite Anthony Hall

Things seem to be going from bad to worse for antisemite Anthony Hall, with the university that suspended him now moving forward with a complaint to the Alberta Human Rights Commission.

The University of Lethbridge is moving ahead with a complaint to the Alberta Human Rights Commission in regards to one of their professors who has been suspended without pay.

Anthony Hall is a tenured member within the U of L’s Faculty

of Arts and Science. He teaches Globalization Studies at the university and has a history of activism.

Hall has been criticized for spreading conspiracy theories and angered Jewish groups over many of his public statements.

In October, the university suspended Hall without pay over concerns that he contravened section 3 of the Alberta Human Rights Act.

The Herald has learned the nature of those specific concerns involved Hall’s Facebook page being used “for virulent and anti-Semitic comments”; inferring that Jewish individuals were responsible for the 9/11 terror attack on the World Trade Center buildings; and “rhetorically asking the Provost and VP (Academic) and the Dean of the Faculty of Arts and Science whether they were ‘Jewish’” when meeting with Hall.

On Friday, the U of L issued a statement to The Herald confirming the board of governors was advised that the external assessment was complete as of Dec. 15.

The board has decided to proceed with a complaint to the Alberta Human Rights Commission against Hall for “publishing statements, alone and in collaboration with others, that could be considered hateful, contemptuous and discriminatory.”

Hall will remain suspended from the university and is not allowed to teach or supervise U of L students. He is also banned from conducting research related to his position at the university.

The university has decided to reinstate Hall’s pay, however, citing the expected length of this investigation as the primary reason.

Hall’s antisemitism may not have been brought to light with his employer had it not been for the work of our own Ryan and his employer Bnai Brith Canada. And I’d like to think my post exposing him, and the subsequent posts left on the University of Lethbridge’s Facebook page by some of you, my dear readers, played a significant part as well.

Neither Ryan or I are likely to be on his Christmas card list, that’s for sure.

In its material the B’nai Brith describe the post as a “depiction of a White man assaulting an Orthodox Jew accompanied by a lengthy, violent anti-Semitic screed beside the photograph.” Here is the post, which I first saw sometime early in September as part of a smear piece published about me at “Aussie Dave’s” Israellycool.

I first saw the item among a number of screen shots all dedicated to “Aussie Dave’s” nomination of me as “Anti-Zionist-Not-Anti-Semite of the Day.”

I remember being particular interested in the part of the post that mentioned Ryan Bellerose, a Metis man and convert to Judaism who has recently been hired as the B’nai Brith’s new Western Canadian representative. Most of my attention zeroed in on Aussie Dave’s suggestion to his readers that they communications to the president of my University, Dr. Mike Mahon. I also took note of a screen shot of an item on U of L letterhead where Dr. Mahon responds to  “JP.” Who is “JP”?
