Facebook Finnishes off Israel on Independence Day

When I wanted to share on Facebook that I was celebrating Independence Day, I got this:

That’s the flag of Finland, not Israel.

I thought maybe they’re just BDSing us. Maybe it’s also Finland’s Independence Day.

But nope:

I wondered then if this blooper was only for their English-speaking audience. So I browsed Facebook in Hebrew and tried again:

Yup. Same blooper.

Which begs the question: how did this happen? Are we talking about a sloppy employee or a rogue one with a case of Israel hatred?

Update: I was in Tel Aviv for Independence Day. My friend in Jerusalem saw something else entirely. Seems like there was one flag they cared about getting right.

One flag was recognized this year, and it wasn’t the one with the Star of David on it, the one that actually exists as a sovereign nation, the one an entire people scattered across the globe yearned for over 2000 years. Their conscientiousness seems to have been meted out in unequal measure, and as usual, the Jews lose.
