JIB Awards 2005

For the second year running, I am proud to present to you the JIB Awards.
The word JIB, besides being an acronym for Jewish and Israeli blog, also represents the small triangular sail of a sailboat, as compared to the main sails. The jib’s role is to direct the wind into the main sail, just like a role of Jewish, Israeli, and pro-Israel bloggers is to direct world opinion in favor of Israel. And to really stretch the metaphor, the object of these awards is to direct new readers towards Jewish, Israeli, and pro-Israel blogs.
While weblog awards of this kind mean little in the grand scheme of things, they are a fun way to increase blog readership, and, in the case of the JIB Awards, promote Jewish, Israeli, and pro-Israel blogs.
Last year’s awards attracted hundreds of blog nominations, generating much buzz and excitement in the Jewish Blogosphere, and even attracting attention from the blog community at large. This year, the competition promises to be even more exciting, as the Jewish and Israeli blog world has at least doubled in size since last year, and is continuing to grow.
In addition, I am proud to inform you that I have been able to secure the involvement of the Jerusalem Post this year. The Post has agreed to host all of the voting, and promote the awards on their website, a move that should guarantee even more publicity and attention directed towards the Jewish and pro-Israel blogosphere.
As was the case last year, the JIBs will involve two main stages. At the first stage, nominations will be taken for 16 categories, after which time a preliminary round of voting will take place. The top vote-getters from the preliminary voting round will advance to the final round of voting, with the top 3 place-getters from each category receiving fame, glory and special banners.
The timeline is as follows:
Dec 12th -18th: Nominations in 16 categories open on Israellycool
Jan 2nd – 12th: Preliminary voting round on Jerusalem Post
Jan 17th – 26th: Final voting round on Jerusalem Post
Jan 31st: Winners announced
In the meantime, please help spread the word about the awards.

Dave, why don’t you simply have an Israeli Advocacy award instead of putting that category blog into the major awards? Didn’t we have this discussion last year?

Perhaps, Meryl,but I honestly don’t recall any such discussion.
In any event, I am sure there are a million different ways to do this. Let’s just get behind these, and make them as big an enjoyable as possible.
What are the categories?
I recommend the following blog; http://antichomsky.blogspot.com for the top spot in the 2005 JIB Awards, for Benjamin Kerstein’s sustained diligence in deconstructing Noam Comsky’s obfuscated utterances.
Going through Chomsky’s seemingly endless pile of disengenuous and intricately woven ‘piffle’, is a task not too many people would sign on to. Benjamin Kerstein does so, with stamina, intellectual honesty and convincing logic, for which we who argue these things are greatly in his debt.
Last year I came in dead last.
But now, like a true “fri’er,” I’ve publicized it on all of my blogs, but I hope to ignore it all. So please if I’m nominated, just let me know.
