Just when you think you know someone…
A do-gooder commodities trader whose wife knows him as a loving husband, “incredible” father, a Little League coach and pillar of their Nassau County community has another identity to prosecutors – bank robber.
Stephen Trantel, 38 – whose dad is a retired NYPD cop and whose father-in-law is a well-known former Brooklyn federal prosecutor – has been accused of pulling off a string of bank heists in five different towns on Long Island over three months, grabbing about $30,000.
Jeanne Trantel, the suspect’s 38-year-old wife who lives with him and their two sons in Rockville Centre, yesterday told The Post she was “stunned” when her husband was arrested the day after Thanksgiving.
“I am still in trauma,” she said.

Trantel’s lawyer, Peter Bongiorno, said his client “has a heart of gold.”
He probably stole that from a jeweller.
