Anti-Semitism and Gib Melson

This from CNN:

The actress who plays Mary in Mel Gibson’s passion-stirring biblical epic “The Passion of the Christ” says her parents were Holocaust survivors but she does not consider the film anti-Semitic.

If there is a message, it’s more about how people can be manipulated by their leaders, Maia Morgenstern said Tuesday.

Now I have not seen the film, so I will not pass judgment (yet) on it. However, what I will say is that just because someone, or someone’s parents survived the Holocaust, does not mean they are a good judge of anti-Semitism.

George Soros, a Hungarian-born Jew who escaped the Holocaust by fleeing to London as a child, is ranked the 28th richest person in the United States (with a fortune valued at $7 billion) by Forbes magazine.

In November 2003, for the first time ever, the billionaire spoke to a Jewish audience at the conference of the Jewish Funders Network. Many people were dismayed by his call for “regime change” in the United States, his talk of funding projects in “Palestine” and the Geneva Accord, and his ideas about the cause of anti-Semitism.

Soros said European anti-Semitism is the result of the policies of Israel and the United States. “There is a resurgence of anti-Semitism in Europe. The policies of the Bush administration and the Sharon administration contribute to that,” Soros said. “If we change that direction, then anti-Semitism also will diminish,” he said. “I can’t see how one could confront it directly.”

Meanwhile, it would seem that Mel has not yet attained global recognition.

Morgenstern’s mother visited her on location, excitedly telling friends that her daughter was filming with “Gib Melson.”

Update: I used to make the same mistake with former Aussie tennis star Pat Cash, constantly referring to him as “Cat Pash.” Can any of you do the same with the name of a famous person? I will post the funniest answer and link to the winner’s blog (if they have one).
