In our politically correct times, more and more people are claiming that racism is at work, in situations where common sense is the motivating factor. For example, when Muslims have been singled out for special treatment at airports, organizations like CAIR cry out “Racism!”, where common sense dictates that a man wearing a sheet over his head is more likely to be carrying explosives in his Nikes than a little old lady from Florida.
The following story from Australia shows that the land down under is not immune from this phenomenom.
A South Australian independent MP says he will oppose a bill banning the eating of dogs and cats in the state, as it plays on racist fears.
Under legislation proposed by the state government, anyone caught eating a cat or a dog would be fined $1250.
But independent MP Kris Hanna said there was no legitimate reason to outlaw such practices.
“Apart from the principles underlying vegetarianism, there does not appear to be any justification at all for this bill,” Mr Hanna said in a statement.
Maybe, just maybe, the bill is being introduced to prevent cruelty to domestic pets. Which in my mind is a noble cause. And even PETA would agree with me.
