Living With Terror

People have been asking me whether I am fearful about the expected reprisals after the Yassin killing.

Firstly, let me state that I do not subscribe to the “cycle of violence”, “tit-for-tat” approach (not that any of you would have entertained the thought that I do). Hamas and the other terrorist organizations are constantly trying to murder us. They sometimes succeed, but mostly don’t (not through want of trying, mind you). Yassin’s death will undoubtedly increase the number of attempted terrorist attacks in the short term, but they will hopefully not be as meticulously planned as usual.

As for being fearful, I can honestly say I am not. Living in Israel for these past three years has taught me that you cannot afford to think about the constant threat of terror too much. Otherwise, you would never leave your house. Far from being fearful, I am, in a way, glad that Hamas and their ilk are admitting to waging war on us. Once the broad spectrum of Israelis realize that we are actually fighting a war, then perhaps our fine soldiers will be allowed to do what they do best – fight the war and emerge victorious.

Them’s fighting words – I know – but I honestly believe that we have to defeat the terror militarily, before there is any chance for peace.

Update: You can now add Hizbullah shelling of our northern border, as well as a stabbing attack, to the morning madness. Things are really heating up here.
