These days, being a PLO Arab journalist is no picnic. Yasser Afatrat to the rescue.
Palestinian Authority Chairman Yasser Arafat promised on Wednesday to investigate a string of recent assaults on Palestinian journalists, including the killing of a magazine editor in the Gaza Strip.
Arafat told reporters, who handed him a letter complaining about the attacks, that he had ordered police to probe a list of cases of violence against journalists. Anyone involved in hurting reporters would be shunned, he told the reporters at his headquarters in the West Bank city of Ramallah.
Oooooh..did he say shunned? Terrifying! That will no doubt prevent any further occurrences.
I would have thought that a more effective approach would be for Afatrat to order the capture and trial of those responsible. Err, maybe not.
The only way to stop violence against journalists is to trial and punish those involved”, a PA source said. He did not believe that Arafat would do so, since those involved in the violence are members of his own Fatah party and security.
Which is also why it is ridiculous to expect the PA to fight terror against Israel.
