Nuclear Rector

A while ago on this blog, I posted about Mordechai Vanunu’s nomination for rector of Glasgow University.

Now it seems as though he was actually elected.

Commons Leader Peter Hain today congratulated Glasgow University students on their “very wise choice” in electing Israeli nuclear whistleblower Mordechai Vanunu as rector.

Labour’s Ann McKechin (Glasgow Maryhill) said the 50-year-old, whose post has been held by William Gladstone, Benjamin Disraeli and Winnie Mandela, had “made such a personal sacrifice over so many years for the cause of peace”.

She called, during exchanges on coming parliamentary business, for Mr Hain to put pressure on the Israeli government to allow Mr Vanunu leave the country to visit the university.

What is with these Scottish students?

Maybe they have eaten too many deep-fried Mars bars.
