Muslim Wakeup!, a popular Muslim online magazine which claims it seeks “to bring together Muslims and non-Muslims in America and around the globe in efforts that celebrate cultural and spiritual diversity, tolerance, and understanding,” has made itself some enemies.
MWU!, North America’s most popular Muslim online magazine, was hacked Thursday evening by an extremist group calling itself the “Islamic OxChallenge Brigades.”The cyber-attackers replaced the website’s homepage with one that declared the magazine’s publishers “murtad,” the Arabic word meaning apostate, a declaration that has been used in the past by extremists to physically threaten their opponents.Declaring that “IT’S YOUR FINAL WARNING, MWU CREW!!” the group’s statement decried the website’s alleged “vile attack on Islam” and demanded a stop to “slandering of the Mujahdeen,” a likely reference to the website’s longstanding positions against terrorism that is carried out in the name of Islam. But we will not be silenced and will not be intimidated. We will continue to fight falsehood everywhere, whether it takes the form of violence, sexism, racism, homophobia, or any other form of injustice. Our only weapons will continue to be truth, compassion, and honesty.“And say, ‘The truth has come, and falsehood has perished; for falsehood is bound to Perish.'” — Qur’an 17:81UPDATE – 12/20: This morning (Monday), MWU! Editor Ahmed Nassef received hundreds of emails with this message:nassef (enemy of Allah and Islam),
This is your final warning!!!!.
If you are not going to stop your anti-islamic activities thru your stupid site, MWU.com, you’ve to pay a heavy prize (your life).
Let his email serve as a final warning to you and your team. Also, see the New York Daily News story today on this attack.
The New York Daily News piece mentions that the FBI is now involved.
Note: Muslim Wakeup! ostensibly takes a very anti-Israel position. So they can’t be accused of being Zionist puppets.
