Brian of London here again. I’ve been watching Glenn Beck’s new GBTV venture from the outset and I’ve pretty much stopped watching anything else. If you thought Beck was telling it like it is on Fox, he wasn’t. He was far too restrained. Now that he’s on his own network, on a show he has largely self financed, he can say what he wants. Even his few sponsors are relatively unimportant and clearly ideologically aligned with him so unlikely to influence what he says.
The dirty little secret you need to know about the whole of the main stream media is this: YOU are the product being sold to the advertisers. Shows are primarily created to please advertisers who pay for them. They need to please you, the audience, just enough to keep you watching. If a show wants to upset an advertiser, it will be stopped. So, lets say, you’re a major news network who derives enormous turnover from drug company advertising. Are you going to be free to run news items that are highly critical of particular drugs? No.
Beck is now different. Last thursday he delved into the Muslim Brotherhood: the whole two hour show was excellent but I can share with you this short clip. The whole of the west is bumbling along pretending that the imminent Muslim Brotherhood takeover in Egypt is not something to worry about. Well they live next door to me and I’m worried. But even worse Beck went into the details of how the Muslim Brotherhood operates freely in the US and its clearly stated goal of bringing down the US constitution.
