Startup Dispatches: ThemeGo Theme Park Awesomeness

ThemeGo-Paper-PresentationHave you ever arrived at a large theme park with a gaggle of excited kids, taken a look at the funny, not quite right looking, perspective skewed map they gave you at the gate (after the 25 minute queue) and looked to the sky for help and guidance? Where do we go first that will quiet the kids down following the drive, the parking, the queuing for the gate?

ThemeGo is an Israeli startup I’ve came across during my own startup nation journey which helps with this problem. It’s like Trip Advisor for Theme Parks and allows people to help out with detailed reviews and tips for getting the most out of specific attractions in parks. It’s got maps, ride reviews that help you decide if a queue of 50 minutes for a 3 minute ride is worth it, details of restaurants in the parks and more.

You can add each individual ride or attraction you find to a personal itinerary and then (and I know this may seem a little backward) print it out on that new fangled thing called “paper”. “Paper” is an amazing invention that displays bright, colour images all day without a battery which can even be read in direct overhead sunlight. It’s amazingly light, can be folded and unfolded without damage for easy, portable storage and the best part is it can be (responsibly) discarded or recycled at the end of the day. Amazing! Alternatively you can also use a smart phone, though you’ll loose many of the benefits of “Paper”.

I was in Euro Disney or (Disneyland Park on this site) a couple of years ago with the kids, and, I would have loved this back then. It has more details on the US parks for now but I really hope this catches on and picks up more content. And best of all, of course, it’s yet another creative use of new technology by Israeli entrepreneurs.
