The final victim of the condo building collapse in Surfside was yesterday identified as Estelle Hedaya, a Jewelry Executive.
Estelle had an Instagram account, on which she posted photos that showed what a strong, vibrant woman she was in life. But that has not stopped some sick individuals from reacting to her death with mocking comments to her last photo.
The above comments seem to come from kids; the following comments ostensibly come from an elderly woman:
The person behind these last vile comments is apparently someone called Susan Howard, an English teacher who says she likes to “spread love no h8.”
A closer look at her Instagram posts and I am not entirely sure she is who she claims (I certainly hope not). The writing style is more like that of a young person impersonating an older person, and she has a Snapchat account, which is not typical of an older person.
Were these comments motivated by antisemitism? Again, I am not sure. None of them specifically target Estelle as a Jew, and some of these sick individuals seem to have a history of mocking dead people.
Either way, it is certainly disturbing that such people exist.
May Estelle’s memory forever be for a blessing.
