The member of the Turkish parliament, Hasan Bismet, collapsed today at the end of a speech he delivered in the National General Assembly of Turkey and criticized Turkey’s conduct in the context of the war in Gaza. According to reports on the Turkish Andolo network, Bismet was talking about Israel as part of a discussion on the budget, when he suddenly fainted. Various members of Congress rushed to his aid. A doctor who was in the plenum gave him first aid and performed heart massage on him, after which he was sent to the hospital for further treatment. His heart reportedly stopped, but resumed beating after medical intervention. In a later statement it was stated that the condition of the 53-year-old member of parliament is defined as serious and his life is still in danger.
Before collapsing and hitting his head, Bismet said: “Even if history is silent, the truth will not be silent. They think that if they get rid of us, there will be no problem. However, if you get rid of us – you will not be able to escape the torment of conscience. Even if you escape the torment of history, you will not be able to escape God’s wrath.”
