An organization of Jews in Hollywood has condemned efforts by Artists4Ceasefire to wear pins supporting Gaza at the upcoming Academy Awards, calling the buttons an “emblem of Jewish bloodshed.”
But this call – by an anonymous group of Hollywood Jews – highlights not just the evil of many celebrities, but the apathy and fear of many more.
I mean, why aren’t there more Jewish celebrities speaking out against antisemitism and in support of Israel, let alone non-Jewish ones?
One Jewish celebrity bucking the trend is actor Jason Isaacs. I have written about his support of Israel in the past, but he has really stepped up to the plate during these dark days.
Many online social media users noted his appearance at the Brit awards, wearing the wearing the yellow ribbon that signifies a demand that Hamas release our hostages.
But what these people might not realize is that Jason wears it regularly, whether he’s eating out, doing interviews, or meeting fans:
Hopefully, Jason will inspire his fellow Jewish and non-Jewish-but-with-a-moral-compass celebrities to do the same, or otherwise speak out. Although I am not holding my breath.
