And now the end is near,

And so we face the final curtain.

Democracy is fine,

But dying fast of which we’re certain.

We need to have our say,

Whatever words we choose to mention,

And more, much more than this.

We need it our way.

Regrets we’ve had a few, too few to mention,

We’ve erred from time to time,

But truly pray for our redemption.

We’ve lived a life that’s full,

With so much pride and lots of courage,

And more, much more than this,

We did it our way.

Yet there were times I’m sure you knew,

Anxiety is nothing new.

When there was war, we closed the ranks,

To save the world with little thanks.

But through it all we stood up tall,

And triumphed our way.

For what is peace, we know what’s right,

Our democratic way is worth the fight.

We’ll keep it safe when it’s in doubt,

We know what life is all about.

The record shows, we took the blows,

But did it our way
