Hash Tayeh Ordered to Pay $10,000 For Hate Speech Vilification

Back in February, I posted how Hash Tayeh was found to have breached Victoria’s hate speech laws at a pro-Palestine rally, when he called on the crowd to chant “all Zionists are terrorists.” He was recently ordered to pay $10,000 compensation. Naturally, he is turning to supporters to help pay the bill, adding news of the decision to his GoFundMe where he is trying to raise $120K AUD:

Yesterday, Vice President Judge Tran handed down the written reasons for her decision. As Menachem Vorchheimer, who brought the action, wrote:

Mr Tayeh’s counsel argued that VCAT should not make compensation orders, including because Mr Tayeh is bankrupt.

Vice President Judge Tran rejected that submission:

“It is nevertheless appropriate that orders be made which clearly broadcast the seriousness of a finding of religious and racial vilification and puts in place specific measures to redress the consequences of that conduct.”

You may recall that Hash’s Burgertory was last year hit with a $1 million tax bill for debts. The Australian Taxation Office later won orders to wind up 13 of his business entities.

Since then, Hash Tayeh has started a new business venture: trading Pokémon cards. He’s being doing several online sales a week.

I am not sure what he means by “the cleaner.” Either that is some kind of nickname (perhaps he is “cleaning up” with the trading), or he is humorously pretending he is just the cleaner at the store.

The former might be true; according to a source of mine, he’s been generating significant money selling these cards via an online marketplace.

While I cannot confirm this, I do hope people are paying attention. If “the cleaner” is pulling in the kind of cash my source suggests, he might want to stop begging for GoFundMe donations and start putting his Pokémon profits toward his legal debts.

Because that $10,000 order still stands.
