Not An Electric Bike

For years I’ve suffered through numerous temper tantrums in the park from my refusal to buy my kids battery powered transport.

I’ve had whining and crying everytime another kid rumbles (slowly) past in any one of the numerous electric cars or bikes that parents are able to buy now. When I was a kid these things were only seen on a plinth in Harrods for outrageous prices that rivaled the cost of real cars!

Now I see they are relatively cheap and sometimes even cheaper than a good, non-powered regular bike.

So it’s not a matter of money: I refuse on principal to give these things to my kids. Until they are quite a bit older they’re going to push or pedal themselves wherever they want to go.

Pointing out the fact that most of these battery powered monstrosities travel half the speed of a well pedalled bike doesn’t seem to help.
