A Picture That Speaks a Thousand Words

An Israeli soldier protects a wounded Palestinian youth who was injured during clashes with Jewish settlers in Mawasi, on the edge of the Gush Katif settlement of Shirat Hayam in the southern Gaza Strip. Ariel Sharon vowed to win a showdown with extremist opponents of his Gaza Strip pullout plan whose tactics, including the attempted lynching of a Palestinian youth, have left many Israelis disgusted(AFP)

Besides the obvious point about the IDF soldier doing the humanitarian thing, a number of other points should be noted:

  • The word “lynching” takes me back to this. In that case, the PA police did nothing to protect the Israelis. In fact, some of the police actually took part in the lynch.
  • Most Israelis – including myself – are outright disgusted at this incident (assuming the facts are as presented by the media). Any attacks on an innocent person are unacceptable. I only wish I had heard similar voices coming from the PLO Arab side after the Ramallah lynchings.
  • Regarding the word “lynch”, I don’t recall the media using this word every time PLO Arabs throw stones at “settlers,” with the intent of injuring or killing them.

Update: Let’s see how dAWK explains it. If he doesn’t ignore it, he will add his own caption, such as:

  • An Israeli army soldier protects an injured settler who was just hit by Palestinians trying to protect themselves

  • An Israeli army soldier hides from brave Palestinians, as he ponders how he can beat one of them whom he has captured

The picture does not really say anything, but this does.

Ah yes the famous myth of Al-Dura

      http://www.moriel.org/articles/discernment/islam/who_shot_mohammed_al-dura.htm

This site has the article from the Atlantic.

It proves really without a doubt that Durra was not killed by Israeli troops. Whoever did kill him cannot ever be known for sure.

I thought stones never hurt anybody? All those cute little PA kids throwing stones look cute throwing stones at the big imposing Israeli tanks. People throwing stones aren’t lynch mobs.

Actually, come to think of it the settlers responded with equal force, isn’t what the world has wanted, to equalize the weapons on both sides to make it”fair”. Maybe the world will wake up to the fact that it doesn’t matter what is being used, it matters how its being used. You can use automatic weapons or stones to indiscrimintly target civilians or you could use automatic weapons or missiles to target terrorists, those aren’t the same acts.

What really is a bit of balance is that the PLO arabs always are throwing rocks at people, now some Israelis try the same method and everyone goes crazy

I have to say while this is a horrible event, why the hell is this receiving so much attention, when literally the same thing just happened to an Israeli border guard just today

      http://www.ynetnews.com/articles/0,7340,L-3107539,00.html

Also this has been happening constantly as you david have pointed out. Yet why is their only outrage right now?
