The Second Lebanon War was seven years ago, and to some it is a distant and faint memory.

7 years after Second Lebanon War, grave site of lone soldier killed

A memorial service was held for Michael Levin z”l, the lone soldier from the US who returned to Israel during the war to join his unit and was killed.

Friends and other lone soldiers gathered at Har Herzl military cemetery to remember.

So many things were piled on Michael’s grave site,

it was hard to see the words written in stone.

And when that service was over,

another service had already begun for another young soldier killed in the war.

The Second Lebanon War memories:

please do not forget these special young lives that were lost.

  1. Myself, I remember that war every time I hear a loud BOOM from somewhere around here, even though nothing happened to me and mine.

May the memory of those gallant young men who kept us safe be for a blessing!

  2. As an American I have a hard time sorting out the details of our own international conflicts, let alone Israel’s. I do remember the military battle with Hezbollah fighters, but I don’t remember what Israel’s objectives were or whether the outcome has had a long term beneficial effect for Israelis. I know Nasrallah still walks the earth, so that can’t be such a good thing.

  3. I remember that war well. I got stuck in it. I was up in Kiryat Shmona with two of my teens, visiting my married daughter and helping her move house. The war broke out when she was between houses and it took 6 weeks for her to complete the move. The intervening weeks were spent with us in Petach Tikva when she couldn’t bear being stuck in the bomb shelter with 3 tiny children.

I will never forget eh terror I felt when I picked up the grandchildren from their ma’on (day nursery) and there was a sudden explosion right overhead. I picked up the children in my arms and ran as if I literally had wings on my feet.

I still jump in fright when I hear loud booms or sirens. I can’t get that scene out of my head.

    1. We were new olim, during those weeks and went to Haifa to get our lift cleared from customs. So excited it was so easy to park the car, no one was around, we had just missed a bomb exploding nearby. Guess sometimes ignorance really is a good thing.

  4. I also remember the four stooges running Israel at the time – Ehud Olmert (yemach shmo va’zichro), Amir Peretz, Dan Halutz, and Tzipi Livni.
