The Ministry of Health’s website for sexual education was translated last year into several languages for all Israeli citizens. The unexpected result: Many surfers from Arab countries enter the page in Arabic
You can find information on sexually transmitted diseases, contraception, sexual abuse, etc. on the safe-sex.com website. The website, operated by the Health Ministry’s Lewinsky Clinic, appeals to men and women, homosexuals and heterosexuals alike.
Last year, the Levinsky Clinic decided to translate part of the site into various languages - Arabic, Tigrinya, English and Russian – to serve various minorities in the country. “A few days ago I decided to check how many surfers from foreign countries entered the site, and I saw a crazy increase in surfers from Arab countries,” said Yael Gur, director of the Levinsky Clinic. “We were amazed to find that there are quite a few surfers from countries that do not have diplomatic relations with Israel, like Iraq, Syria and Libya.”
According to the data, the most viewed pages among surfers from Arab countries are those dealing with the menstrual cycle, the papillomavirus, adolescence, masturbation, “10 facts about the penis” and pregnancy and childbirth.
“We estimate that the high rate of surfers in the Arab countries – specifically to a site operated by the Israeli Ministry of Health – stems from the fact that this is one of the only sites in the Arabic language that provides extensive information on sexuality for men and women, young and old, LGBT and straight, We do not talk about these issues, so they turn to the Internet. On our site they find materials in their own language. It makes me happy that the site helps to present a more positive picture of the State of Israel.”
No doubt, there will be those in the Arab and Muslim world who will see in this some grand plot by the Joooooooooos to corrupt the minds of the innocent (think Zionist Sex Gum of DoomTM)
But for those with even a modicum of common sense, we are happy to be of service! (and glad many of you want to actually put condoms to proper use)
