Settlements in Gaza

JTA has some history on the settlements in Gaza.

Note the following:

  • The Israeli government’s decision to hold on to the Gaza settlements after the 1967 war was based on the fact that Egypt had used Gaza as a base for frequent attacks against Israel.
  • The Jewish presence in the Gaza Strip dates back to biblical times.
  • A security fence has proven effective at stopping terrorist infiltration from Gaza into Israeli proper.
