Shock and disbelief is the pervasive mood in Israel tonight, with the assassination of a Tel Aviv District Court judge. And while it is still not clear who perpetrated this crime, guess who has claimed responsibility for it.
The Al-Aksa Martyrs Brigades took responsibility for the attack, which they said was in revenge for the assassination of Hizbullah commander Ghaleb Awali in Beirut Monday morning, Ynet reported
Still, not everyone is convinced that this was a terror attack.
[Justice Minister Yosef] Lapid rejected a claim of responsibility by the Al-Aqsa Martyrs’ Brigades, which is affiliated with Palestinian Authority Chairman Yasser Arafat’s Fatah movement.“There is no suspicion that this was an act of terror,” Lapid said.
In my mind, Afatrat is behind this attack, for the simple reason that this is a tried and tested tactic of his. Whenever he finds himself in a spot of bother with the PLO Arabs, he manages to find a way to deflect attention to Israel’s “aggression” against his people. Clearly, this has been the case for the past few days, with the PA-controlled territories threatening to erupt into civil war. So what does Afatrat do? He orders the killing of an Israeli official, knowing full well that this may elicit a response from Israel. And if Israel responds, his people can “unite” once more against the common enemy.
So if Afatrat is behind this, why did he target this particular man? Perhaps the answer lies here:
Although Azar presided mainly over civil cases during his 12-year-long judicial career, he had previously ordered the Palestinian Authority and PA Chairman Yasser Arafat pay six Israeli victims of Palestinian terror NIS 72 million in compensation, Channel 1 reported.
Time will tell whether or not I am correct. In the meantime, condolences to Judge Azar’s family.
