The French are not too happy with Prime Minister Ariel Sharon, after he told French Jews to get out of France and come to Israel.
For examples of “acceptable” language, see here and here.France sharply criticized Prime Minister Ariel Sharon on Sunday after he urged French Jews to emigrate immediately to Israel to escape what he called “the wildest anti-Semitism”.
Branding Sharon’s language “unacceptable”, a French Foreign Ministry spokesman said Paris had demanded an explanation.
This has prompted the following response from an “anti-racism” organization:
Just like the French have been doing while anti-Semitism runs rampant in their country.“These comments do not bring calm, peace and serenity that we all need,” said Patrick Gaubert, president of the International League Against Racism and Anti-Semitism, known by the acronym LICRA. “I think Mr. Sharon would have done better tonight to have kept quiet.”
Update: On a side note, who was the bright spark that thought “LICRA” was a good name? Sounds more like a 1980’s tribute band.
