After threating to do it for some time, the English-speaking Israeli bloggers finally met up together Thursday night. And, it would be fair to say, that the evening was a hit.
For most of us, it was our first experience meeting up with fellow bloggers, many of whom write blogs that are the subject of our daily reads. The idea of finally meeting people whom you know-but-don’t-really-know-but-kinda-really-do-know was an exciting one, yet tinged with some anxiety over whether they would conform to my preconceptions. Having said that, I can honestly say that all of the bloggers I met were way cooler than I could have anticipated.
This is not to say that I had low expectations for anyone, but rather that I had a suspicion that bloggers would normally be more open on their blogs than in real life. I think that my blog accurately reflects the way I really am, but I was not sure that this would apply to the others.
But it certainly did, and a great time was had by all. Highlights of the evening included finding out the truth about Harry (who is the most ” Californian” Long Islander I have ever met), meeting the elusive Imshin (who dished the dirt on Shoosha), being given tips on Canada-speak by Rebecca, being told how great Australia is by Gil (whom I could not resist bugging to return to blogging), realizing that I have friends in common with both Noa and Gilly, and seeing Adrian break all of my misconceptions about what an “egghead” should be like (in a good way).
I also had the pleasure of speaking with David (who was taller than I expected), Shai (who was also taller than I expected), Allison, Brian, Sarah, Ohad, Mich, David and Rinat. My only regret was not getting the chance to speak to all of the bloggers there. Hopefully next time.
Update: It seems that some of the bloggers did not think I was “Aussie” enough (as epitomized by Harry who truly thought he would be able to impersonate me!). Serves you right for expecting a mix between Crocodile Dundee and a koala bear.
