Something that causes Saddam Hussein discomfort: a hernia

Former Iraqi dictator Saddam Hussein had a hernia operation two weeks ago, a U.S. military official has told CNN.

The surgery, which was performed by Iraqi doctors, took place at the Ibn Sina Hospital, located inside the heavily secured Green Zone — where U.S. and Iraqi officials are headquartered.

The operation lasted about an hour and Saddam was returned to his cell the same day, sources close to the Human Rights Ministry told The Associated Press on condition of anonymity.

“It was a routine surgery, no complications and it alleviated the discomfort he was feeling,” a U.S. military official told CNN.

Iraqi officials said Saddam had made a full recovery, AP reported Tuesday.

When asked if Saddam was reluctant to go into surgery, the military official said: “It was certainly a surgery that he agreed to.”

Something that causes Saddam no discomfort: the murder of women and infants

A mass grave being excavated in a north Iraqi village has yielded evidence that Iraqi forces executed women and children under Saddam Hussein.

US-led investigators have located nine trenches in Hatra containing hundreds of bodies believed to be Kurds killed during the repression of the 1980s.

The skeletons of unborn babies and toddlers clutching toys are being unearthed, the investigators said.

One trench contains only women and children while another contains only men.

The body of one woman was found still clutching a baby. The infant had been shot in the back of the head and the woman in the face.

“The youngest foetus we have was 18 to 20 foetal weeks,” said US investigating anthropologist P Willey.

“Tiny bones, femurs – thighbones the size of a matchstick.”

Mr Bush, Mr Howard, Mr Blair, and the rest of the coalition of the willing: Thank you! This alone is ample justification for the invasion of Iraq.

And Mr Hussein – I hope you develop complications and spend the rest of your miserable life in excruciating pain.
