The World According to Darp

Aussie blogger Darp on respect:

I give Arafat a couple more days. They will pull the plug once the back channel deals get sorted out. Gaza burial, Ramallah burial? Will he do a Faisal Husseini and score a spot under Al-Aqsa? Not friggin likely.

The man: As a wily guerilla leader and resistance fighter, he deserves respect. As an incompetent statesman and autocrat, he deserves nothing but derision.

Darp on understanding:

Israel will be more than happy to see extremist groups like Hamas and Islamic Jihad fill that power vacuum as it better enables their spin doctors to project the image of a Palestinian nation effectively controlled by terrorist organisations.

That’s right, those same people who were dancing in the street after the twin towers came tumbling down. Those same people who were dressed identically and doing the same things in a video released by Israel during the 1990 Gulf War when Tel Aviv took a few scuds courtesy of Saddam. In other words, they released the same fucking video.

I don’t deny that some Palestinians were dancing in the street after September 11. Can you blame them? After spending 56 years being beaten to a pulp by US-made military hardware and by extension, the umbilical cord of American money that funds the Israeli occupation machine – I kind of understand why.

Darp showing his ability to read minds:

Long term it’s not so easy to call. Israel has made it abundantly clear that a peace process leading to the establishment of a Palestinian state is the last thing they want. They can no longer play the card of saying that they want peace but have no partner to deal with – some overtures will have to be made (for appearances sake). Ahmed Qurie will hang around for about six months or so but his lack of popular support amongst Palestinians at large will probably see him shoved aside.

(I assume he can read minds, because how else can he be so certain that Israel does not want peace? After all, what motivated Israel to sign the Oslo accords with the PLO Arabs, hand over territories such as Jericho and Hebron, arm the PLO Arabs up to their eyeballs, and make a very generous offer regarding final status issues?)

Darp showing his ability to tell the future:

So expect a massive spin campaign against Palestinians in general. If it can be succinctly communicated to a dipshit Western audience that these Arabs now have suicide bombers for cabinet ministers, Israel can finish off what it started in 1948 with minimal outside interference. After all, all you need to do these days to butcher civilians is to say that they’re terrorists or that they’re harboring terrorists.

I can’t see a pumped-up Bush administration doing a thing to stop it despite many commentators claiming that Dubya may use his second term to make his mark on history by being THE President to nail a lasting peace deal. Like he could even find Israel on the fucking map for starters.

Remember, his loopy far right Christian Zionist backers NEED the biblical land of Israel to rise to it’s former glory so as to hasten the second coming. After which all Jews who don’t accept Jesus in his second incarnation will probably be butchered on the spot.

Don’t get me wrong. Darp seems like an intelligent guy. I just question his morals, and knowledge of history.

I should add, that I do agree with some things Darp has to say..like his thoughts on Terrorfat’s appearance:

Coming from an advertising background I’d always wished that the Palestinian movement had someone a bit more pleasing on the eye as their main representative. I wasn’t wishing for George Clooney but just someone whose ugliness doesn’t make you shudder whenever it crops up on the late news.

Scary. Anyway – I was originally planning to crap on about Arafat but having just eaten, I don’t really want to spend any time conjuring up his image in my head.

Abu Ammar had his time, he helped bring the Palestinian issue to the world stage and he wore the Kafia proudly – I only wish it covered more of his face sometimes.
