Israel’s answer to The Apprentice – called The Ambassador – began last night.
You may recall the premise of the show from my previous post here.
Fellow reality tv junkie Harry notes some changes since then.
Initially, the foreign ministry was going to be involved with this series but withdrew their support when benefactor Joey Low of Israel at Heart ripped into Israel’s previous PR efforts and called them “embarrassing” during a ten minute promo for the show. While I agree with what he said, pretty much calling the Israeli people incompetent wasn’t the smartest move if you want people to watch your TV show.
How ironic that a show showcasing diplomatic skills has been promoted with such utter lack of diplomacy.
Another controversy surrounding the show is its similarity to Donald Trump’s The Apprentice. Harry sums it up nicely.
Looks like the show might be in legal trouble too. Channel Ten owns the rights to “The Apprentice” and Channel 2 is denying that it is anything like Donald Trump’s show. Let’s see….teams divided up by the sexes, project managers, a boardroom where one contestant gets eliminated each week….yeah, no comparison whatsoever.
(In fact, the husband of fellow Israeli blogger Allison was on television last night, discussing the legal issues).
Harry will be covering each week’s episode. You can read his interesting synopsis of last night’s episode here.
