Revenge of the Sith

Fellow Star Wars fans can view the trailer for Episode 3 here.

As you will see, the trailer incorporates some scenes from the original trilogy. To me, this is a reminder of what endeared me to Star Wars in the first place. I just hope this final episode is able to capture some of the magic of the original three, magic that went AWOL in the most recent instalments. But I have my doubts.

For a start, the technology used in the recent movies makes them feel very “synthetic”. There is alot to be said for the originals’ cheesy special effects and bloopers (like the Stormtrooper hitting his head on the door frame in the original movie). They gave the movies a certain charm.

And then there’s Jar Jar. Even the Ewoks had nothing on him. And that is saying alot.

And while the acting in the originals was horrid at times (who could forget this?), even that had a certain charm. Now, the bad acting has all the charm of wood.

It is, of course, possible that my love of the originals is largely nostalgic in nature; a reminder of my childhood. Perhaps if I viewed the original Star Wars movies today for the first time, I would not like them as much as I do.
