It seems that my concerns regarding the “ceasefire” agreed upon in Egypt a few days ago are being realized.

Hamas announced earlier Thursday that it had fired 46 mortar shells and rockets at Israeli communities in and around the Strip.

A second barrage was launched several hours later. One mortar shell was fired at a settlement in northern Gaza and three more in southern Gaza, Army Radio reported. There were no casualties or damage

And let’s not overlook this:

Israel Defense Forces soldiers operating in Nablus on Thursday afternoon arrested a Palestinian man suspected of planning a suicide bus bombing attack in Jerusalem’s French Hill section in the near future.

On Thursday morning in the same West Bank city, IDF soldiers arrested two Fatah militants. The militants led the troops to an armed explosive device they had planted nearby.

Abbas has to crack down on the terrorists and crack down now. Perhaps he is finally getting the message?

Abbas said he had issued “strict instructions” to his security forces to prevent any violations of the cease-fire. He also said he is planning a series of “decisions and measures” for his forces, but did not elaborate.

I dunno. He is talking awfully euphemistically, which usually means he is not going to take any meaningful action.

Update: The Sydney Morning Herald would have you believe that Israel violated the “ceasefire”.

Palestinian shot day after ceasefire

A Palestinian man died today after he was hit by gunfire from a Gaza Jewish settlement, in the first conflict-related fatality since Israel and the Palestinians declared a truce a day ago, medics said.

While the article does quote the IDF account (that the man was one of four suspected terrorists possibly trying to infiltrate Atzmona), the headline implies that Israel violated the ceasefire, and the opening paragraph implies that the PLO Arab was shot by ‘settlers.’
