The Israeli cabinet has now weighed in on the latest tirade by London Major Ken Livingstone. The response? A cabinet resolution expressing outrage, coupled with a nice little jab aimed at Livingstone’s oversized ego.
The cabinet expressed its “outrage” Sunday over what it called London Mayor Ken Livingstone’s “anti-Semitic” remarks “against both Israel and Prime Minister Ariel Sharon.”Writing in Friday’s edition of The Guardian, Livingstone termed Sharon “a war criminal who should be in prison, not in office,” said that Sharon “continues to organize terror,” and denounced Israel for “ethnic cleansing.”Communications Minister Dalia Itzik raised the Livingstone issue in the meeting, saying that Israel could not sit quietly in the face of such a virulent attack.While voices were raised advocating a more serious expression of Israeli displeasure, such as recalling the ambassador for consultations or calling the British ambassador to the Foreign Ministry to lodge a formal protest, it was decided to suffice with a cabinet resolution expressing outrage.—-One senior diplomatic source described Livingstone as a “periphery” figure in British politics who was using this issue to gain publicity. As a result, there was a discussion in the Foreign Ministry and the Prime Ministers Office since Friday over whether it would be better to just ignore the tirade, and not pump Livingstone up, or whether some kind of action or declaration needed to be taken because his statements were “so obscene.”
Why not also demand that Livingstone puts up or shuts up? Get him to try and provide proof of “ethnic cleansing” (which does not exist). Then we can all watch as Red Ken makes an even bigger fool of himself.
