Good and Bad Ideas in Marketing

Meet Goodwin, part of the Real Kidz toy line.
Unlike the “perfect” dolls out there, with their perfect blonde hair, perfect figures, perfect families, and perfect houses, Goodwin, and the rest of the Real Kidz line, are said to fill a void in the competitive toy marketplace.
Courtney Helm didn’t see any doll that looked like her nephew Cameron, who was born five years ago to a white mother and a black father. Helm also saw many biracial children in her Brooklyn, N.Y., neighborhood who also were without a doll model.

“I wanted Cameron to feel comfortable in whatever situation he’s in. I want to teach tolerance, I want kids to know everyone is different,” Helm says.

So Goodwin is supposed to be the product of a white mother and a black father. Judging by the picture, I would suggest that he also has Jewish roots.
In any event, this toy line sounds like a great idea to me. And speaking of racial tolerance and great ideas, here is something that isn’t.
A Swedish rights group cried foul over advertisements for a liquorice ice-cream, saying the posters for “Nogger Black” were racist.
Not only could the name of the ice-cream bar made by GB Glace cause offence, but the posters, with graffiti-style text, lampooned black culture, the Center Against Racism said.
“The GB Glace company may not be racist, but the ads they use give new life to racist stereotypes,” the campaigning group said in a statement.

“We certainly had no intention that the name, ‘Nogger’, would be associated with any negative word.”
If these people were only as stupid as they think we are, they would be way less stupid than they actually are.
