Remembrance Day

Today in Israel is Yom Hazikaron (Remembrance Day), the day on which we mourn all of the servicemen and women who have fallen in defense of this country. This totals over 20,000 people since November 1947.

May G-d bless all of those who have fallen defending this country, and may G-d bless their families.

“We know this night is for you – bereaved families – another night of insomnia, another night of pain and agony…We look at your watery eyes and our shoulders fall. We look at your shaking hands, at your staggering knees, and our hearts break.

Faith and the struggle for independence and sovereignty collected a heavy blood price of us. With blood and sweat we continued to absorb immigration and build towns and villages – at the same time we had to hold a weapon for our defense; to protect the lives of our citizens.”

Israeli President Moshe Katsav addressing the bereaved families at last night’s commemoration ceremony.
