When Steve Met Arnie

Israeli Foreign Minister Silvan Shalom has met with the Governator Arnold Schwartznegger.

Foreign Minister Silvan Shalom met with California governor Arnold Schwarzenegger in Los Angeles Thursday, their third meeting in two years.

Schwarzenegger joked that many in California, a state with a large Mexican-American community, accepted the fact that his first international trip as governor was to Israel rather than Mexico.

Shalom told Schwarzenegger that he would be happy to see California, who’s economy is the fifth strongest in the world, to open an interests office in Israel, as 21 other American states have done. Schwarzenegger responded positively to the idea.

He told the foreign minister that the previous governor had closed all the state’s offices around the world, but that he would reopen them, and that Israel would be one of the first countries in which offices would be established.

The foreign minister also suggested that Schwarzenegger establish a joint committee with Israel for cooperation in the sectors of hi-tech, solar energy, the environment, and homeland security.

Schwarzenegger told Shalom that he was feeling the pressure in the run up to elections for governor in California in November 2006. “I always played the big guy in films. Now I feel like David against Goloiath,” he said.

Thank goodness Judy was nowhere to be seen. If she accosts Arnie, I’m sure he won’t be back.
