American TV “personality” Geraldo Rivera has decided he knows the answer to achieving peace in the Middle East: him!
Shelly Yechimovitz isn’t alone. Another TV personality has decided to trade in his microphone for Israeli politics. Says who? None other than American talk show host Heraldo Rivera, in an interview with the Philadelphia Inquirer, Israel’s leading newspaper Yedioth Ahronoth reported Sunday.
“I’ve wanted to make aliyah (immigrate to Israel) for years, so I could run for the Knesset and further my ideas to promote Israeli-Palestinian peace,” he said.
Rivera, 62, has been a reporter and presenter for Fox News for years. Amongst other things, he has reported on the war in Afghanistan and the Israel-Palestinian conflict.
Rivera, whose mother was Jewish, says he was raised as a Jew and had a bar mitzvah.
“I would die for Israel,” he told the Inquirer.
“We must take risks for peace,” he continued. “I want peace between Jews and Palestinians, based on equality for both countries.”
His recipe for peace? Violence!
And what would he do if elected to the Knesset?
“I would cause a fuss, and every day I would attack someone else,” he said.
Update: Geraldo shows his violent side even more in this version of the story:
Had he made it to the Knesset, “I’d be punching out everybody every day.”
Given the military background of most Knesset members, he might just die for Israel after all.
