Feelgood Story of the Day

Brings a tear to me eye:

A special surprise was waiting for Foreign Minister Tzipi Livni when she attended the General Assembly of the Israel-Jordan Chamber of Commerce this week, as an Iraqi businessman approached the minister, introduced himself and said that he will do anything to help promote peace in the region, and “even die for you.”

As Minister Livni was entering the hall at the Crown Plaza hotel in Tel Aviv during a convention of the Israel-Jordan Chamber of Commerce, she was approached by a member of the Jordanian delegation and introduced himself as Ibrahim Lutfi, an Iraqi businessman who lives in Jordan and Los Angeles, and is a supporter of her efforts to bring peace. “I really love what I do. I will do anything in order to promote peace in the region, and I am even willing to die for you,” said Lutfi.

Lutfi also expressed his wishes that one day Israel and Iraq would hold diplomatic ties and the Israelis will be able to visit Baghdad. Livni was a bit embarrassed and smiled at him. She exchanged a few words with him and bid him farewell.

The conference was attended by 60 leading Israeli businesspeople and 20 Jordanian businesspeople, as well as dignitaries such as Director-General of the Jordanian Ministry of Industry and Trade Dr. Mustar Ukla, and Jordanian Ambassador to Israel Ali el-Ayed. The Jordanian delegation was organized by the chamber and the Peres Peace Center together with retired Jordanian General Mansur Abu-Rashid who serves as chairman of the Amman Center for Peace and Development.

Found via Israel Today, who entitled this article Iraqi businessman ‚Äúwilling to die for FM Livni‚Äù. (Maybe it’s just me, but when he said “you”, I think he meant the people in the region, and not Livni).
