Brian of London here. British Chief Rabbi Blasts Steve Jobs as Consumerism ‘Moses’. What on earth is the Chief Rabbi of Britain doing taking a cheap shot at Steve Jobs? While Sacks sees iPods and iPads as frivolous devices, I know that Job’s mind has created the tools that make ME more efficient every day and contribute to MY ability to create real jobs (not blood sucking government make work jobs) in Israel. My efficiency, aided by Job’s fantastic products, keep this economy turning with taxes to pay for all the social programs so beloved of moochers and looters like the good Rabbi.
From Israel National News: British Chief Rabbi Blasts Steve Jobs, Consumerism – Global Agenda – News – Israel National News.
Speaking at an interfaith reception attended by Queen Elizabeth II, Rabbi Sacks said: “People are looking for values other than the values of a consumer society. The values of a consumer society really aren’t ones you can live by for terribly long.
Interfaith! This from a man who printed the most dangerous lie of Islam in one of his books: “There is no compulsion of religion” in Islam. Tell that to the MILLIONS of men women and children slaughtered for the outrageous crime of not being Muslim over the centuries. And then, with a straight face, I saw him tell someone standing right next to me who challenged him on this, there is a time and a place to bring up such things and to do so would not be diplomatic. How did that work out of the Jews in America, many of whom by their inaction, are indirectly responsible for the Holocaust? They didn’t think it polite to scream about the plight of their fellow Jews in Europe.
According to a report in the Telegraph, he then added that “The consumer society was laid down by the late Steve Jobs coming down the mountain with two tablets, iPad one and iPad two, and the result is that we now have a culture of iPod, iPhone, iTune, i, i, i.”
What a pile of nonsense. What people do with his products was beyond Jobs and the “I” in the title incidental. Hey Rabbi, have you counted how many times the great Saviour Obama says I or Me in a sentence? Yet I’m sure you were all for him and his socialist, marxist evil plot to enslave us all.
“Therefore the answer to the consumer society is the world of faith, which the Jews call the world of Shabbat, where you can’t shop and you can’t spend and you spend your time with things that matter, with family. Unless we get back to these values we will succeed in making our children and grandchildren ever unhappier.”
Now you’re back on more solid ground for a Rabbi and yes, even though I’m not as observant of the sabbath as I should be, a day off from the world and spending better and more dedicated time with my kids is a good goal. But when I’m running Skype on my iPhone so that my kids’ grandparents on the other side of the world can see them in the bath, what part, exactly, did Steve Jobs play in making me a worse person.
I guess I shouldn’t have jumped. This whole speech by Sacks is actually what is known in marketing as “Link Bait”. He stuck a newsworthy name in an otherwise completely unforgettable speech to gain headlines and promote himself and the brand of “Rabbi Sacks”. And by doing so he is guilty of exactly what he falsely accuses Steve Jobs of doing. And I’m slightly sorry I rose to the bait.
[Please note the title of this post is entirely satirical and I’m not looking for anyone to modify the Rabbi with a hot poker.]
